Since opening in 1973, lovers of fine food have enjoyed meeting at Cafe Escadrille. Under the ownership of Robert W. Murray and the management of Susan Poirier, who remain closely involved in the restaurant’s day-to-day operations, Cafe Escadrille has consistently won recognition throughout the Boston area for excellence in food and hospitality.

Cafe Escadrille takes its name from the Lafayette Escadrille (“Lafayette Squadron”), a World War I flight unit of the French Air Service formed in 1916 and composed of 38 American volunteers. Fueled by a spirit of adventure, these “daring young men in their flying machines” fought gallantly by day and relished fine food and drink by night. They left behind a legacy of spirited celebration that we honor to this day.

Like those Americans abroad in France, our focus has always been continental fare. New trends and foods influence our cuisine, but we still build on the classic cornerstones: exceptional food preparation, a choice of three distinct dining preferences, outstanding service, an expansive menu, and excellent wine selection. Small wonder our consistent quality keeps customers coming back—some for more than 30 years.

In 2003, Cafe Escadrille unveiled a multi-million dollar building with state of the art amenities for weddings, social events and business functions. The “new” Cafe Escadrille features the same trademark decor but has it own identity, expert event staff and resources for groups large and small. Our restaurant also continues to undergo improvements with the goal of becoming even better and more customer-friendly.

The first 30 years at Cafe Escadrille have been wonderful—but we intend to make the next 30 even better. As the namesake of gallant flyers who loved good food and drink, we’ll do our very best to host you and your companions in style. That is the essence of dining at Cafe Escadrille.

“On a quiet night at the Escadrille, one can almost hear the revving of biplane engines…and the gallant laughter of young pilots enjoying life to the fullest before flying off into the unknown.”
